New Saturday Writers Post

No, you're not a day early nor am I.  We added a new blogger to our group so the days have been shuffled, mine by a day.  My posts will be on the 24th of the month, if anyone is interested in reading.

Small vent in progress...
First patron of the day, not one of my favorites, but usually I can deal with him.
A little info dump...
He's the type who is NEVER wrong.  He rarely has anything positive to say, but manages to mask it with a pleasant tone. I take in to account his generation and how he thinks, usually just laughing off or ignoring comments.  Especially his dislike of anything written by females, too wordy or descriptive.  *shrug* To each his own.
Today his comments just hit me wrong and I had to say something.  Nothing scathing mind you, just a little comment of my own, not that it mattered.
Back to our story...
He brought in a book by a well known author (name withheld to protect the innocent) and claimed it could never have been written by him .
'I think these guys all have ghostwriters.  They're like politicians'  (meaning writers)
It went on from there but those are the highlights.
I in turn said, 'Thank you'
He laughs and says, 'You're not a politician.'
I reply, 'No, but I am a writer.'
He laughs again as he walks to the shelves.  'But you're not prominent.'
'No,' I say, 'I'm nowhere the caliber of (name withheld to protect the innocent)."
Thankfully our exchange ended there, I let the director finish taking care of him.

I know I shouldn't have let it bother me and truthfully don't even know why it did.  *shrug*

*sigh*
Ok, I'm done now.
Time to get busy so I can become prominent and get myself a ghostwriter!  *rolls her eyes*

Long time no post!

NaNoWriMo is over as well as the holidays and I can take a small breather.

My latest post went up on schedule, the 25th of December, over at Saturday Writers.  I'll admit it's pretty dorky, but it was due on Christmas!

Progress on Disenchanted is moving at a snail's pace, I got out of habit with the whole holiday thing.  I know that's no excuse, but it happened.
It didn't end where I was planning so now I have to come up with a new ending or go back and rewrite the later third of the darn thing.
Think I'll go with the new ending for now then when I go back and edit decide which is the better course.

My writer gals have given me the challenge of learning how to use Twitter.  Just what I need something else to distract me *grin*.  Give me a tweet if you feel inclined.

Latest Saturday Writers Post

My latest Saturday Writers post.

After much cutting and I'll admit little new content here's the progress in the main document

As you can see my tendency to edit before the story has been told has taken over. I suppose it's better to go over what I've already written than to stare at a blank screen for hours on end or beat my tiny brain against the keyboard.  Blood stains are so hard to remove from between the keys.

The end of the story has pushed itself to the foreground  so I'll try and get that down then start connecting the dots.  Maybe by weeks end I'll be able to add all the disjointed scenes floating around in the file, bringing the main document up total up.  We'll just have to see which ones make the cut.

This story could easily be renamed Disorganized instead of Disenchanted!

Saturday Writers

Well people, as I previously posted, I'm trying to limit my time on the web so I get some writing done, instead of getting distracted.  That said, I'm here to tell you that if  for some unknown reason, you just have to read something from me you can check out my writer's group.  We, The Saturday Writers, have a blog and take turns posting something dealing with-drum roll please-writing.  My posts will be up the 25th of each month, if you are interested or bored enough check us out at Saturday Writers.

I'm outa here before I get sucked into playing instead of working!

Writer's Block: How I got on LJ

Who introduced you to LiveJournal? Why did you first open an account or get involved?

I would have to blame Vicki Pettersson.  It started with reading her entries and then I found myself searching out other authors, then there were groups of them.  I just couldn't stop myself...I joined.  Now I'm like a little cyber-vamp, sucking up inspiration whenever it's posted!

Long Time No Post

Well it's been far too long since I last posted.  I've been trying to stay away from distractions like here and myspace so that I gain some wordage on the WIP, and I have!  I won't say it's good, but there are words on the screen.  The only distraction I haven't been able to avoid is work, but I updated Library page so that's out of the way until Tuesday.  I just stopped by for a little inspiration from the wonderful people over on FF&F.  Thanks guys!  You probably don't get told enough how helpful it is to read your posts.

Now that I've drank my fill from the well of inspiration, there are peanut butter M&M's and a Dr. Pepper within easy reach, it's time to hustle off into The Meadows and see what Keely and the others have in store for me tonight.

Too busy writing to write

I've been entirely too busy writing to stop by and scribble something here.  Things were going well with my current wip until now.  I was yanked out of The Meadows and into real life with a phone call.  Gods I hate when that happens!  It wasn't even something I have control over.  Oh well.
Anywhoo...
A lot of writers have been warning me that reading for pure pleasure will become harder and harder the deeper I get into the writing world.  I'm not so arrogant that I didn't believe them, I just hoped it wouldn't be as bad as some of them said.  Falling into a book and letting the story flow over me is getting more and more difficult.  I find myself reading and wondering how did they do that?  Why did they do that?  And worse yet, am I going to look like a copycat, even though I'd already written something similar before I read it in so and so's book?  This leads to the big ol' doubt monster who chomps away at anything I've written, even the things that are actually slightly readable.  Then I have to get the magic monster spray to keep him in control.  Kind of like parents who give kids a spray bottle to squirt the monsters under the bed or in the closet.
I know I can't stop reading it's too important, in both my jobs and also for relaxation.  Something I really need right now.

It's been too long

It's been a long time since I've posted over here, been spending way too much time over on MySpace.  Hoping to change that, but it's hard to keep up two of these things.  Not to mention I spend a ton of time reading all the other posts on both.  There's some great advice out there for anyone willing to pay attention.
Things have been crazy around here.  On the home front there is housework and the remodel of the front porch.  At the library extra hours with the boss having to get her CEUs and her son getting married next week.  Then there's the book signing we are hosting next month, I'll have a bunch of promo work once the author sends me the info.
As for writing it's been up and down.  The story is slow in movement but my voice has improved, it's finally sounding right.  Maybe I've finally found the right way to tell this story.  I sure hope so anyway.  Now if I can get the characters to cooperate I'll be happy, still pushing for a rough draft to be done by Christmas.  Can't cross my fingers, makes it hard to type, so I'll settle for crossing my toes.

Jumping back in the game...head first

I'd forgotten how addictive this web stuff can be.  In some ways it keeps the creative juices flowing, in others it's a huge distraction from what I should be doing.  I'd also forgotten how much help it can be in finding others who do what I attempt to do.  Writing.  I say attempt because  lately I always find an excuse not to be writing, even though my characters won't leave me alone!  Cruising around reading author sites and blogs has reminded me how much help my online group was before we all split.  Sure there are other authors in my area, but those I've met aren't as interested in bettering themselves through critic and bouncing ideas around, as they are self publishing works that really needed an editor, or chatting about mundane things.  Not that I have a problem with self publishing, just those that do so and rub your face in it, then refuse to admit the work needed help.  So I'll keep doing it the hard way.  It's worked in the past for me with short stories.  True, they weren't on paper, just webzines, but I can be proud that someone thought they were good enough to pay me.  Getting back on the horse is a little hard, but I'm trying by joining a few groups I've come across while surfing.  Maybe I'll get lucky find some support and even luckier by giving some back.  Fingers crossed!

Greetings!

OK, here goes nothing!
As many will notice this is my first attempt at an online journal.  You'll probably find nothing but ramblings, kind of like talking to me in person.  What can I say?  My mind has a tendency to wander off in many directions at once.  This can lead to either total confusion or brilliant little sparks of creativity.  Don't expect too much from one so addled, I can be easily distracted and forgetful so updates may come in spurts.  Writing comes first followed closely by household duties and my part time job at the local library.  A wonderful resource for a writer and even better for an avid reader.
Thanks for taking the time to stop by and those of you interested in my mundane life or the alternate Iowa world of The Meadows check back every so often.  You never know what you may find here, possibly even some beauty tips from Keely or one of the other stylists at Fey Creations Salon.
